“Sumita has a remarkable gift for finding order in the seemingly disparate parts of a project. Every manuscript she touches benefits from her attention to detail, her skill with words, and her problem-solving abilities. Any author would be lucky to work with her.”

—Rachel Monaghan

Every writer needs an editor, even writers who are editors. When I decided I needed a second set of eyes on my work, Sumita came to mind immediately. As an editor, I have access to editorial networks, so could have cast a wide net. But I knew Sumita was a skilled and professional editor—exactly the person who could ensure that my work flowed well and its themes and narrative arc were clear. To top it off, Sumita has a wise and gentle manner that puts you at ease. I’m very grateful to Sumita for recognizing and helping me resolve the problems with my piece. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

—Lillian Duggan

“Sumita Mukherji is an exceptionally talented writer and editor, and I’m grateful for her remarkable insight and sage advice. Not only is she smart, patient, and wise, but she is also the consummate professional—reliable, thoughtful, and compassionate. I cannot recommend her highly enough!”

About Sumita Mukherji

Welcome, dear writer! I’m Sumita, an ADHD-friendly editor and book coach primarily for distracted writers and female leaders. Who’s a distracted writer? Many people! A writer with ADHD. A sleep-deprived, new parent. A multipassionate person. A time-deprived female leader who puts writing in the “later” category (As someone who was a female leader in the publishing industry with ADHD, I know how that is!).

I help memoirists, scholars in the humanities, narrative nonfiction writers and literary authors finish their books with insightful developmental editing and/or book coaching. For years I worked at a university press as an editorial and production director, earning a specialization in developmental editing from the University of Washington along the way. I’m also a published author with an MFA in creative writing, so I know the challenges writers face when staring at deadlines, blank pages, or tenure opportunities. Writing a book is a big deal!
